Important Resources for UNIA/ACL Members
The time has come for the Black man to forget and cast behind him his hero worship and adoration of other races, and to start out immediately to create and emulate heroes of his own. We must canonize our own martyrs and elevate to positions of fame and honor Black men and women who have made their distinct contributions to our racial history. Sojourner Truth is worthy of sainthood alongside of Joan of Arc.

First Message to the Negroes of the World from Atlanta Prison
Tuesday, February 10, 1925
All I have I have given to you. I have sacrificed my home and my loving wife for you. I entrust her to your charge, to protect and defend her in my absence. She is the bravest little woman I know. She has suffered and sacrificed with me for you; therefore, please do not desert her in this dismal hour, when she stands alone. I have left her penniless and helpless to face the world, because I gave all, but her courage is great, and I know she will hold up for you and me.
Ayiti Orientation
Haiti is the only case in recorded history where a formerly enslaved people rose up against their oppressors and militarily defeated them to then form an independent nation in 1804. While Haiti is the second independent country in the Americas after the United States which became independent in 1776, it is the first free country in the Americas as the US was a slave owning nation. Haiti is the first independent country in Latin America. Haiti is NOT the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Haiti has been the victim of an international conspiracy of the white slave owning nations of the world to malign and impoverish it ever since it fought a successful war which abolished slavery in 1804 and declared Haiti a haven for all enslaved peoples. Since these countries still “rule” the world today, their propaganda against Haiti marches on.
Boukman’s Prayer
The God who created the earth; who created the sun that gives us light. The God who holds up the ocean; who makes the thunder roar. Our God who has ears to hear. You who are hidden in the clouds; who watch us from where you are.You see all that the whites have made us suffer. The white man’s god asks him to commit crimes. But the God within us wants us to do good. Our God who is so good, so just, He orders us to revenge our wrongs. It’s He who will direct our arms and bring us the victory. It’s He who will assist us.We all should throw away the image of the white man’s god who is so pitiless. Listen to the voice for liberty that sings in all our hearts.

The Philosophy and Opinions of Marcus Garvey
by Amy Jacques Garvey
The Philosophy and Opinions, first published in two volumes in 1923 and 1925, quickly became a celebrated apologia for the leader of the largest Pan-African mass movement of all time. “As we approach the 1987 celebration of the centennial of Marcus Garvey’s birth, the time seems appropiate for the United States and Jamaican governments to declare null and void the legal proceedings that unjustly sent him to jail in both countries. Nor should a mere ‘pardon’ suffice, presupposing as it does, the presence of guilt to begin with.” –From the Preface.
